The Stuff of Life

I just wanted to post a book I heard about on Science Friday. It's a genetics comic book that looks like it goes into pretty good detail. If you need a visual way to study genetics for the AP exam, it might help.

Bulgan,

It's written for high school crowds. I'm not sure what material it's going to cover, and I certainly can't promise any improvements in your AP score :). If you're a visual learner it might help, at least on the genetics section.

You can find out more info on the book and listen to the interview if you go to Science Friday's website or if you download this week's podcast on iTunes. Check out:

On the left side of the page near the top you can click the link to listen to the story and decide for yourself if it's worth it to you.

I'm listening to one of them but i don't really get it, i think i am the visual learner.

But i have a question, this one was pretty interesting. I was listening to this Tobacco Plant Grow Cancer Vaccines, and i think it said "each person donates a sample of their tumor, and from that they get the genes that code for this protein insert them into this virus, make a plant, produce that protein and inject it back in" does this mean they insert the gene into the plant and after it grows, inject the genes back in to the person? WOW.

Oh and i noticed one more thing, it is saying you suck the leaf to this vacuum and squish it and get the juice of the leaf. Which will give us the needed gene/DNA.
We learned that in Biotech :)
Right, Mr.Baker~

I agree with DJ, these cartoon guides can help and they are typically written in a entertaining fashion. The Science Friday podcast is on my weekly download menu but have not listened to it yet. I may share it with all of you during SSR.

If I follow what you are describing Bulgan, the answer is yes, it sounds like a total genomic DNA extraction technique.
